HCP Newsletter - February 2006
Greetings,
Co-directors Dr. Sanduk Ruit and Dr. Geoff Tabin and HCP friend Dr.
Charles Wykoff have recently published a new book on fighting global
blindness, published and distributed by the American Public Health
Association. It is essentially the how-to manual for working to
eliminate blindness in the developing world. In the Foreword, Dr.
Alfred Sommer writes, "One of the most insightful and inventive partnerships has been the one created by Geoff Tabin and Sanduk Ruit,
American and Nepali ophthalmologists. They have developed a highly
efficient, hospital-based approach to delivering cataract surgical
services to densely populated areas and effective modifications
applicable to outreach activities reaching more sparsely population
regions."

The Himalayan Cataract Project is pleased to announce a partnership
with the Nepal Trek & Trail Run to support a remote eye camp in the
Himalayas. Nepal Trek & Trail has organized a two week trip planned
for November 2006 that includes a 10 day trek through the Annapurna
region of Nepal, a half marathon for those who wish to participate and
a visit to the Tilganga Eye Centre in Kathmandu, the HCP base of
operations in the Himalayas. A portion of the proceeds from the run
will benefit the HCP. For further information and to learn about
joining the trip please visit our website:
