The second quarter of 2008 was filled with optimism and hope – a new government is taking shape in Nepal and we experienced the satisfaction of witnessing final finishing touches on the construction and imminent handover of the building by our contractors. (See the progress report from Tilganga with photos [PDF, 1.3 Mb] of each part of the building.) Optimism also grew substantially with the commodity procurement process (the equipment required to outfit the hospital) with news of USAID-ASHA’s intention to negotiate a significant grant in support of FY’08 commodity needs.

The Himalayan Cataract Project strives to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in the Himalaya through high-quality ophthalmic care, education, and establishment of a sustainable eye care infrastructure.
Based in Asia at the Tilganga Eye Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal, the Project is empowering local physicians to alleviate the suffering caused by blindness through unique programs including skills-transfer education, cost-recovery, research, and the creation of a world-class network of eye care facilities.
